ANIMAL ADVOCACY & PIGLET'S RESCUE FUND

Piglet was rescued from a hoarding situation in Georgia when he was a newborn puppy. While Piglet was fortunate to have found a devoted loving family, there are many dogs like him still looking for their forever homes. Through our social media pages, Piglet has become an ambassador for disabled rescued animals.

Our advocacy efforts and Piglet's Rescue Fund were set up to:

  • Educate about and advocate for rescued animals through our social media pages, Piglet Mindset® educational program, as well as webinars on a number of veterinary topics

  • Encourage spay and neuter of dogs and cats in light of the pet overpopulation problem

  • Motivate individuals to adopt rescued pets, especially those who are disabled

  • Provide funding to rescue organizations that focus on disabled dogs and other animals

  • Support for The Disabled Pets Project, a comprehensive resource for veterinarians, pet parents, and rescuers who care for disabled pets. The website is disabledpets.org

  • The fund is supported by direct donations as well as a portion of all Piglet merchandise sales.

PIGLET AND GEORGIE'S KINDNESS CLUB

Piglet and Georgie's Kindness Club has been created to encourage children to bring Kindness Campaigns to their communities. Examples of Kindness activities include running a food drive and delivering the food to local food pantries, or raising awareness for animal rescues by collecting dog and cat food and other supplies for their local animal shelters and rescue organizations. Some children might be interested in organizing book drives where they raise funds and support so they can purchase and donate books to head start programs, community day cares, school libraries, and individual children.

There are so many ways to bring kindness into the community.

We hope Piglet and Georgie's Kindness Club will motivate everyone to remember to be kind!

As a veterinarian and dog mom, I’ve chosen the NAD+ supplement Leap Years because I want to do everything possible to enrich their lives as they age. I’ve seen remarkable improvements in my older dogs’ cognition, enthusiasm for daily activities, and interactions with family members, so we decided to start our middle-aged dogs on Leap Years too.

Little Zoey and Piglet are doing well now, so we don’t expect dramatic changes in their behavior. Still, being proactive in their middle age is just as important as addressing illness when it occurs.

Supporting cellular health with an NAD+ supplement helps preserve cellular function and sustain health across all body systems. Along with providing good nutrition, moderate activity, and quality veterinary care, it keeps my dogs feeling their best.

Leap Years is different. It’s backed by a clinical trial in dogs and formulated with optimal potency, supported by a safety study in dogs. I recommend Leap Years for my veterinary patients and hope you’ll try it for your middle-aged and older dogs too.

I get lots of messages saying, "I would never get anything done if I had your dogs". Well, guess what!

I don't get anything done either, sort of.
There are compromises to be made. I don't go out to movies or out to restaurants, our vacations revolve around our dogs, and I spend hours a day just taking everyone for their deserved walks.

I do get work done but thankfully my work is not conventional. I would not be able to go to a 9-5 job and have all these dogs.

The compromise that some would feel is unacceptable, is worth it to me.

My dogs have taken me to the absolute best places I never would have known without them. I'm thankful for my lapses in judgment in getting to an 8 dog household.

If I was really looking for a puppy, would I have If I was really looking for a puppy, would I have picked Baby Betty?

The answer- A BIG FAT NOPE!

Why? Bc she is not a natural good match for our family of tiny terriers and chihuahuas. She wants to herd them and she is HUGE compared to all of them. She plows into them with no regard for their size. She gnaws on them with her pointy sharp baby teeth, and she is a control freak. She thinks she's in charge of everything I do.

What did I expect? This. If I had really dug down deep I would have said no. This puppy is a full time project. She is deaf and a herding breed. She needs certain things that Chihuahuas and terriers don't.

But she is adorable, sweet, and a very good learner. There is just a lot to learn and her energy needs need to be taken very seriously. Being deaf seems like it wouldn't be harder than working with a deaf blind dog, but in fact, it is. She can't hear any verbal cues from her people or the dogs. And she can see everything so she gets into everything.

Baby B is very funny. She is a character and she is adorable. I was not in love with her at first sight although I loved the idea of having another white herding dog after the loss of my Gina.

The deaf part was a given. I doubt that even if I was really ready to add a dog and had done my usual exploring of available dogs, I would have gotten a dog without a disability. But I doubt I would have chosen this one. She is a huge handful and really not the best match for our pack.

All that said, every day she surprises me with her willingness to learn and settle into her routine. With a ton of time and energy, I have no doubt that Baby B will ultimately be a dog I would choose to be mine.

Lesson for others- don't be spontaneous about choosing a dog unless you are willing to commit to the dog you bring home, no matter what.

Today was National Senior Pet Day. Here is our m Today was National Senior Pet Day.

Here is our most senior dog Dean with a goodnight message. When you get old, know and accept your limits. If you're not up to your daily walk, sit it out. That's what Deanie did tonight. He rested so tomorrow he'll be recharged and he'll have more energy for the next walk.

Many older dogs don't know their limits and will walk until they can't get up anymore. Many try to go further than they can. It's important to respect the aging process. "He wanted to go further" is not a good excuse for letting an old dog over-do it.

Most important- Enjoy your senior pets during the most precious time of their lives.🩷🐾🩷🐾🩷

New Patio- No Problem. Contrary to what most peo New Patio- No Problem.

Contrary to what most people think and expect, these two deafblind dogs take environmental changes in stride.

Piglet and Baby Georgie LOVE a good challenge. You can see from this video that neither dog gives it a second thought. They used their senses of smell and touch to find their way to the gray mat at the bottom of the ramp. That's their marker to head up to the back door.

Piglet eats this stuff up. It keeps him from getting bored. His greatest pastime is using his nose to conquer new challenges.

Georgie takes everything in stride. Whatever new obstacle shows up, he works right past it.

And in the process, could they actually be any more adorable? Maybe- bc they get cuter every single day!

Enjoy our Deafblind boys. And take a hint from them- adopting a disabled dog is awesome!
