Piglet Mindset® School Visits

Our program is entertaining and fun, but the primary goal of our Piglet Mindset School Visits is to emphasize and reinforce Piglet's message and lessons of positivity, resilience, compassion, and kindness.

Classroom and school visits begin with a short Powerpoint presentation. We follow with a live tap signal demo by Piglet and his deafblind brother Georgie. We do a short Q & A if there's time.

The format is flexible, adaptable, and can be customized to different size groups and number of presentations requested. We realistically can do 3 one hour presentations in one day.

Zoom, Facetime, or Google Meet Sessions are a virtual alternative to an in-person school or classroom visit. Virtual Visits with Piglet and his pack are adaptable to a wide range of applications throughout the school year. Virtual sessions are a great addition to an end of the school year Pink Party.

ANIMAL ADVOCACY & PIGLET'S RESCUE FUND

Piglet was rescued from a hoarding situation in Georgia when he was a newborn puppy. While Piglet was fortunate to have found a devoted loving family, there are many dogs like him still looking for their forever homes. Through our social media pages, Piglet has become an ambassador for disabled rescued animals.

Our advocacy efforts and Piglet's Rescue Fund were set up to:

  • Educate about and advocate for rescued animals through our social media pages, Piglet Mindset® educational program, as well as webinars on a number of veterinary topics

  • Encourage spay and neuter of dogs and cats in light of the pet overpopulation problem

  • Motivate individuals to adopt rescued pets, especially those who are disabled

  • Provide funding to rescue organizations that focus on disabled dogs and other animals

  • Support for The Disabled Pets Project, a comprehensive resource for veterinarians, pet parents, and rescuers who care for disabled pets. The website is disabledpets.org.

  • The fund is supported by direct donations as well as a portion of all Piglet merchandise sales.

Evie's day after chemotherapy. It wasn't as plann Evie's day after chemotherapy.
It wasn't as planned bc she felt very sick during her Piglet school visit.

I wouldn't have brought her if I knew how sick she would feel when we got there. She looked ok this AM before we left.

But if you watch to the end, you can see that she perked up on the way home and was back to herself when we arrived.

Evie has only had one bad day since we started chemo in Dec. She has sailed through all the meds without feeling sick at all. Today was the first real reaction to chemo that she had.

Thankfully, she's ok AND her lymph nodes are half the size they were yesterday.

I won't be too optimistic bc her long and short term prognosis isn't good but I'm happy it was only a few hours of feeling sick. Choosing to give chemo to a dog is very emotional and upsetting. I struggle with these decisions but as long as my little Evie is still able to enjoy her life we will continue.

Next school visit is on Friday and I hope she'll feel up to it!

Happy Mother's Day! Today was a great day to refl Happy Mother's Day!

Today was a great day to reflect on how lucky I am to be the mom to so many present and past pups and birds, and of course, my three beautiful adult children. There are many more that wouldn't fit onto this carousel but here are their representatives. I love them all.

And I want to be sure to add thanks to my very supportive wonderful husband, Favorite Dad, Warren.

Happy Mother's Day to my own mom who still attends all of my webinars and has even come to a school visit with me!
Our Piglet Mindset School Visit program is in its Our Piglet Mindset School Visit program is in its 10th year. I have brought my dogs into hundreds of schools and we have touched tens of thousands of children with Piglet's message of positivity and kindness.

Our children's book, Piglet Comes Home, along with many videos and other online resources are an integral part of our program. Educators use these materials to teach SEL and inclusion lessons prior to our visits. The children become very familiar with and attached to our large pack of awesome dogs.

As you might know, we have had three losses and three new dog additions over the past 5 years. I have tip toed around the fact that we lost Susie at 16 years of age, 5 years ago. I do talk about her in the past tense but try to be subtle about it. Occasionally kids ask if we still have her and I explain very briefly that we don't.

Now it's a little harder for me to hide the fact in my own mind that three are gone. But I still try to skim by these three dogs who are in our videos and program. I can't remove them bc they are a big part of Piglet's story. They are in our book. They can't be erased. And I wouldn't want to anyway.

But occasionally a past tense comment comes out of my mouth which is what happened last week.

One of the kids immediately raised his hand and asked- "What do you mean by HAD? Do you still have Gina?" Then the direct question came- "Which dogs don't you have anymore?"

I was mortified but quickly realized the opportunity to spin this in a very positive way. They all know that dogs die bc most have had dogs and tell me, and others know other people who have had losses of pets.

I explained that they all were very old and sick when they died and no we don't have them anymore. BUT, they stay in the story and in our presentations bc we still love them and are happy they were and still are part of our family and Piglet's story.

The children accepted the explanation and moved on. I'm positive many would have been happy to talk about their own dog losses but that isn't part of this Piglet Mindset Program. I have veterinary talks that are more suited to that kind of discussion.

Any thoughts on this situation?

Should she stay on the school visit team or should we ban her again?
The greatest gift I can give myself this Dog Mom’s The greatest gift I can give myself this Dog Mom’s Day is celebrating my dogs. As a veterinarian and dog mom, that means slowing down—going for walks, spending time together, and being fully present with all seven of my sweet rescue dogs. #ad

But the truth is, every day feels like Dog Mom’s Day. It’s a daily opportunity to appreciate them and care for them in thoughtful, meaningful ways. My gift to them is supporting their well-being—keeping them happy, engaged, and thriving with enrichment, quality nutrition, and science-backed supplements like @leapyearsdogs.

My 14 year old poodle schnauzer mix Evie is being My 14 year old poodle schnauzer mix Evie is being treated for lymphoma with chemotherapy. Her haircoat is not healthy like it used to be. She looks kind of ratty at times which honestly is one of the most upsetting reminders of her illness bc it's so obvious.

Today her groomer made a special appointment for Evie to get a bath and hair-coat so she'll be clean and beautiful for our school visit in RI tomorrow.

I had no idea how happy it would make me to see her looking more like her usual self today. I'm really struggling with this whole situation. Seeing her all cleaned up made me realize just how important it is for her quality of life to keep her well groomed in addition to keeping her feeling good!

Frustration can be a healthy emotion for dogs to work through. These three certainly have gained good coping skills for when they find themselves wanting attention, or whatever else they deem necessary.

You have to admit that they are pretty cute when they're in crying mode.
