Piggy and his sisters just had an awesome class vi Piggy and his sisters just had an awesome class visit. This is a bilingual classroom which made it a little more challenging and a lot of fun.
The kids knew all about Piglet and his family so their questions and understanding of a Piglet Mindset was exceptional. In fact, their teacher described the impact Piglet was specifically having on the class in the way the kids were really going out of their way to accept and include one of their classmates who has a disability. Empathy is on the rise. This is a Piggy Mindset!!
We had a really nice discussion about the addition of Lucy and a few of the children were very sad about Lucy's beginnings. In the end, they understood that Lucy is now a very happy family member despite the lasting issues with her feet.
Piggy Evita and ZoZo did an extensive Piglet Show and we answered lots of questions.
Before we left we took some pictures. Piggy is so precious when he poses in front of a group. I must admit, he was especially adorable today!!!
Have a great afternoon!

Image- Piggy Zoey Evie lying on a white Piglet Mindset towel with kids sitting behind them. No faces are seen bc they vent be published on social media.
Evie is my Buffer Dog. When I fell in love with he Evie is my Buffer Dog. When I fell in love with her worried look almost 10 years ago, I had no idea what a Buffer Dog was and I definitely didn't need one.
Flash forward many years to the arrival of Piglet, the deaf blind pink puppy.
Even then I didn't know that Evie would become a very important member of Piglet's Inclusion Pack travel team! But when everything settled and our Piglet Mindset program and then school visits began, Evie stepped up to the plate.
There's not much to say other than take a close look at the first picture. There are many small hands covering the little fluffy white dog. She was in all her glory today as 4th graders couldn't get enough of her.
Yes, Piggy is the star. But Evita is the one who loves children to this degree. She seeks out contact with children and adults in a calm, measured way. When she's had enough she will move out of range. But her patience and good nature are exemplary.
She creates a smooth and natural buffer zone between the audience and Piggy Wee. It's not that he doesn't want yo say hi. He gets overstimulated very quickly and needs down time. That's where Evie takes the lead (assisted by Zoey).
The last two pictures are Evie's Facebook rescue pictures that I could not get out of my head! We had four dogs already and didn't need a 5th. But when the tug is as strong as it was, there is no fighting it. Sight unseen, I sent for her!! What a find!!
We love our little white fluffy Evita!!

After an hour and a half of extremely wild and cra After an hour and a half of extremely wild and crazy fun with Lucy and his mom (see our stories), Piggy Lee has finally settled down and gone to sleep. He had a beautiful day at @princeton but the car ride was long. So he had a lot of excess energy to take care of tonight before bed. So did the young Lucy Lemonade who is getting stronger and more comfy in her new home, by the day (see stories).
This Piggy Goodnight is being posted late bc this is when the pink young man decided to give us his Sunday night bedtime photo!
We have two virtual school visits tomorrow. We're all really excited. One is a surprise for kids who have been doing Piggy Mindset and the other kids have been excitedly looking forward to our visit for weeks! Both have awesome teachers and everyone is going to have lots of fun!
Have a good night!

Last week we had a memorable visit to a class of 2 Last week we had a memorable visit to a class of 2nd graders in NJ. One of the children raised his hand and shared that when he learned about Piglet being deaf and blind he felt very sad for him. He wrote a beautiful letter to Piglet that included drawings, encouraging words, and stories about other really cool disabled animals that Piglet could be friends with. It was one of those overwhelming emotional moments that come with meeting children that have amazing teachers who use our Piglet Mindset program with their students.
These children were very well versed in disabilities in animals and how these animals face their every day challenges with determination. They understood how Piglet manages to use his other senses to be involved and "know where he is and what's going on" pretty much all the time. They knew about accommodations and we specifically talked about how we help Piggy to access his life within his limitations.
Of course, Piglet will never chase a ball in a park or take an off leash run in the woods. But look at all he can do. He lives a very fulfilled life for sure.
When children are introduced to these concepts early on, the impact on their perceptions about themselves and how they see others is lasting. It doesn't take much to bring our small powerful pink puppy into a classroom, a scout troop, or a home. We hope more teachers, school administrators, librarians, and parents will join our program. It's fun, the program is free to download from our website, pigletmindset.org, and there's new material on our pages to share with kids every single day, once a week, or once a month!
We've recently added a new PowerPoint called Piglet Gets a New Sister, and new activities to our activities collection.
Here's Piggy living his good life yesterday in Boston. He looks pretty happy doesn't he?

If your child is afraid of dogs, please don't anno If your child is afraid of dogs, please don't announce and keep repeating over and over to them that they are afraid of dogs when they are calm and interacting calmly with dogs.
We ran into a dad with his 3 year old while we were walking yesterday. They actually ran up the road to catch us so they could look at the dogs. The daughter seemed interested in the spectacle of so many dogs with two in a stroller.
The dad asked lots of questions about the dogs and the little girl was very calm. At some point he wanted to look in to see Piggy. I asked if the little girl would like to pet Evie bc she loves children.
And then it started. He couldn't have said "she's afraid of dogs" more times in the next 5 minutes. He turned his kid from calm to whining and scared. And as we passed a house with a barking dog behind a fence, on a street they always walk on, the kid became panicked.
I'm not here to give parenting lessons but just one observation. If you repeatedly reiterate negatives about your kid, to your kid, they stick. It's not just about being afraid of dogs- examples- he's really good at math but he's a terrible reader. Or he's not very athletic. Or whatever else negative you can find to drum in! Don't define your kid in negative phrases!
As for dogs, there are ways to calm dog fears. I'm not going to cure a dog phobia on a first meeting in the street, especially when I have 7 dogs with me. But there are ways to discuss dogs in a constructive way rather than turning it into reinforcing fear.
Little Susie and Evie have helped numerous children over their dog fears. One example is described in our PIGLET book as it is one of our very first Piglet event memories.
Anyway- I felt very bad to see an opportunity to put dogs in a good light squelched by a repetitive reinforcement of negative.
There are many ways to manage fears in a positive way.
BTW- All kids need to be taught NOT to run up to strange dogs without asking if they are friendly and want to be petted. And if someone says no please don't pet my dog, that the children back off. Being respectful of dogs and their people is also very important.
Here are portraits of our 8 dogs for you to enjoy.

Why say no when you can say yes? We've all made s Why say no when you can say yes?
We've all made some reluctant "yes" decisions in our lives. No doubt, some were mistakes, but since this is Piggy's page and Piggy is a positive little guy, right now we're only talking about the positive yes decisions.
My new Piglet Mindset presentation is called "Why Say No When You Can Say Yes!?!" Obviously the focus is on my saying yes to fostering and then adopting Piglet, the deaf blind pink puppy. Of course, I imposed my yes decisions on Warren, and being the agreeable husband that he always is, he agreed on those yesses!
Along the way, leading up to that fateful pink yes on May 3, 2017, there were many others that paved the way to our meeting and adopting Piggy.
Hence, this picture of our more than adorable sweet Susie.
I'll take credit for finding her and bringing her home despite Warren's very firm NO more dogs. But when he met Susie he agreed that a yes was in order. And there the ball was rolling towards a series of especially smart dog decisions, among many others, that has become much more than an exciting dog rescue adventure.
This week has been particularly emotional as I think back to Piglet formally joining our family. Rachael sent this picture of Susie this morning which is why it is at the top of my photos and included here!
Finding Piggy and each of the others were very important events in our lives. The Susie find was especially outstanding as she forged the path to Piglet Mindset. And we're grateful that she was in our yes column.
Baby P. Relieved that his Favorite Dad called him Baby P. Relieved that his Favorite Dad called him "son". Even though little foster baby Piggy was settling in, after two months with no formal adoption, he had been worrying about his status in his family. He thought he was home but the ongoing discussion of where he would land was concerning (to all of us!).
May 3, 2017 was the formal Piglet adoption day. By May 5, his confidence had grown exponentially. Look how he has his head resting on his Fave Dad's leg here in this sweet pink puppy picture.
Do you think he really knew? It's surely not out of the realm of Piglet!
Today we're headed to an elementary school in NJ. They do Piglet Mindset on Fridays throughout the school year. So they are eagerly awaiting our visit!
Judging from the way Piggy behaved yesterday at his college visit, he's going to be a very happy boy when he finds himself in front of another enthusiastic Piggy crew today!
