Piglet Mindset® School Visits

Our program is entertaining and fun, but the primary goal of our Piglet Mindset School Visits is to emphasize and reinforce Piglet's message and lessons of positivity, resilience, compassion, and kindness.

Classroom and school visits begin with a short Powerpoint presentation. We follow with a live tap signal demo by Piglet and his deafblind brother Georgie. We do a short Q & A if there's time.

The format is flexible, adaptable, and can be customized to different size groups and number of presentations requested. We realistically can do 3 one hour presentations in one day.

Zoom, Facetime, or Google Meet Sessions are a virtual alternative to an in-person school or classroom visit. Virtual Visits with Piglet and his pack are adaptable to a wide range of applications throughout the school year. Virtual sessions are a great addition to an end of the school year Pink Party.

For more detailed info, please review the Piglet Mindset Detailed Info PDF for Educators HERE!

ANIMAL ADVOCACY & PIGLET'S RESCUE FUND

Piglet was rescued from a hoarding situation in Georgia when he was a newborn puppy. While Piglet was fortunate to have found a devoted loving family, there are many dogs like him still looking for their forever homes. Through our social media pages, Piglet has become an ambassador for disabled rescued animals.

Our advocacy efforts and Piglet's Rescue Fund were set up to:

  • Educate about and advocate for rescued animals through our social media pages, Piglet Mindset® educational program, as well as webinars on a number of veterinary topics

  • Encourage spay and neuter of dogs and cats in light of the pet overpopulation problem

  • Motivate individuals to adopt rescued pets, especially those who are disabled

  • Provide funding to rescue organizations that focus on disabled dogs and other animals

  • Support for The Disabled Pets Project, a comprehensive resource for veterinarians, pet parents, and rescuers who care for disabled pets. The website is disabledpets.org.

  • The fund is supported by direct donations as well as a portion of all Piglet merchandise sales.

PSA- Risks of Chewable Veterinary Medications

Last night little Evie grabbed Dean's dose of antiinflammatory med. It was wrapped in a pill pocket and he still spit it out.

Evie is much smaller than Dean which meant the dose could be toxic to Evie. So I decided to induce vomiting. We ended up at the emergency hospital in the middle of the night which turned into an expensive event. Thankfully Evie is fine but the accident was avoidable for sure.

By flavoring medications, pharmaceutical companies make medicating dogs much easier for pet parents. But, chewable meds also pose a serious risk bc dogs consider tasty medications as treats.

The same holds when we disguise meds by wrapping them in a pill pocket, peanut butter, or cream cheese!

There are two major risks involved in having chewable and well disguised meds in your home.

1. Dogs find the packages of chewable meds- antiinflammatory/NSAIDs, heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, compounded chewable antibiotics and other medication classes. Large dogs commonly grab them off of a kitchen countertop and any sized dogs find them when they aren't stored out of reach- travel bags, packaging arriving in the mail...

2. Another big risk happens when giving meds in multi dog households- that's us!
If one dog decides not to swallow his dose and drops it on the floor, other dogs are waiting to grab up the "treat" for themselves. Embarrassingly, this has happened to me with my dogs on more than one occasion, and I consider myself to be aware and careful.

If either scenario happens to one of your dogs, it is crucial to seek veterinary care immediately. Newly swallowed meds can be retrieved through inducing vomiting. Most antiinflammatory meds, which are commonly used for older arthritic dogs, are highly toxic, especially when little dogs get big dog meds.

Prevention- isolate dogs from each other when giving meds. There's no being too careful when it comes to safety for our dogs.

I could write a whole book here and now about our little treasure but the book has already been written. Hint- it's for sale wherever books are sold and the titles are PIGLET and Piglet Comes Home!

Anyway, we are grateful for our precious little Susan. She is missed every day. Piglet and Annie and Deanie are probably still secretly waiting for her to walk through the door.

If you scroll through these pics you can see how happy our dogs felt when they were with her. I'll post Susie and her people pics in our stories throughout today as we remember and give thanks and celebrate our little gray rescued dog from Tennessee. Sweet Susan🩷
Warm Weather Health Tips for Pets Part 1: As warm Warm Weather Health Tips for Pets Part 1:

As warm weather approaches, when you're walking your dogs, you'll likely come across dog water bowls set out by friendly neighbors and store owners. It seems like a great idea bc dogs need water in warm weather to avoid overheating.

But please think twice about letting your dog take the plunge into a communal water bowl. Just like you wouldn't share your own water bottle with folks you meet when you're out walking, your dog shouldn't share with other dogs!

Scroll to learn why it's a good idea to carry your own fresh clean water and dishes for your own dogs if you're going to be out in warm weather.

Of course, if it's going to be too warm, it might be best to leave your pups home in cool AC!

Stay tuned for Part 2 in our new warm weather health tips for pets series.

Sometimes it's hard to say no.

These two deaf blind sisters were very much loved until they were dumped at a rural AR shelter when their parents got old and developed an allergy to getting up early to take care of their adorable dogs.

When we saw this sad picture of these two blue girls, who are almost identical to our little boys, there was no saying no! They will be joining our pack this weekend!

What's a couple more- 8 dogs -> 10 dogs!? We already know how to care for the deaf blind ones. And the dad has plenty of lap room for more love!

Seriously- If/when you're looking for a new dog or other pet, we hope you'll choose to adopt a rescue.

Deanie is 15, he has severe arthritis, and he has an awesome positive attitude that carries him through his rough days.

We love you Deanie.🩷
Good mentors are hard to come by. We happen to hav Good mentors are hard to come by. We happen to have one here that serves not only as a mentor but also as an awesome good girl who loves children and adults of all ages.

She's compact, is "hypoallergenic" (ha), and she is very good natured. Her name is Evie.

Deaf/mostly blind baby sister Ruby has attached herself to Evie, which is adorable. Evie gives her gentle corrections which you can see don't deter Ruby in the least. So we step in to keep the peace (for Evie).

Evie is 14 yrs old. She is being treated for lymphosarcoma with chemotherapy. Her positive attitude and resilience shine. We are so lucky to have her.🩷
