ANIMAL ADVOCACY & PIGLET'S RESCUE FUND

Piglet was rescued from a hoarding situation in Georgia when he was a newborn puppy. While Piglet was fortunate to have found a devoted loving family, there are many dogs like him still looking for their forever homes. Through our social media pages, Piglet has become an ambassador for disabled rescued animals.

Our advocacy efforts and Piglet's Rescue Fund were set up to:

  • Educate about and advocate for rescued animals through our social media pages, Piglet Mindset® educational program, as well as webinars on a number of veterinary topics

  • Encourage spay and neuter of dogs and cats in light of the pet overpopulation problem

  • Motivate individuals to adopt rescued pets, especially those who are disabled

  • Provide funding to rescue organizations that focus on disabled dogs and other animals

  • Support for The Disabled Pets Project, a comprehensive resource for veterinarians, pet parents, and rescuers who care for disabled pets. The website is disabledpets.org

  • The fund is supported by direct donations as well as a portion of all Piglet merchandise sales.

PIGLET AND GEORGIE'S KINDNESS CLUB

Piglet and Georgie's Kindness Club has been created to encourage children to bring Kindness Campaigns to their communities. Examples of Kindness activities include running a food drive and delivering the food to local food pantries, or raising awareness for animal rescues by collecting dog and cat food and other supplies for their local animal shelters and rescue organizations. Some children might be interested in organizing book drives where they raise funds and support so they can purchase and donate books to head start programs, community day cares, school libraries, and individual children.

There are so many ways to bring kindness into the community.

We hope Piglet and Georgie's Kindness Club will motivate everyone to remember to be kind!

Happy Gotcha Day to our oldest and wisest Deanie. Happy Gotcha Day to our oldest and wisest Deanie.

We weren't planning on having a 3rd dog. I had paid for his transport up to CT to get him out of a shelter in AR. He was being fostered by a friend, not us. But when he came to visit, 2 unnamed family members insisted that he stay. I fought it but lost. Sort of.

Dean was a huge pill in the beginning. His dog reactivity ruined our walks! He barked all the time, and still does!

But Deanie is the nicest, most loved dog in our group. That's bc he is considerate, a good big brother to all, and not very demanding about anything. He is here to be a good family member and he is committed to his role in our family for the 14 years since we adopted him.

Deanie is adored by our girl dogs, he was BFF to Susie and Gina, and he still takes good care of little Annie who is so attached to him. Lucy is also a diehard Deanie fan.

Deanie is a cancer survivor and now his mobility is declining. But he still shows up for special treats and to go on his walks when he feels up to it.

We love our big boy. We are so lucky to have such a dog. Now when he barks and won't stop, I'm thankful to be annoyed! Looking back, I didn't lose out when we adopted Dean. He is an outstanding boy dog!

Happy 14th Gotcha Day Big Boy. We all love your precious gray face and we will be happy to help you up and down the ramp outside and the stairs to our bedroom for as long as possible.🩷

We will be celebrating Deanie at Georgie's 3rd Zoom bday party this Sunday. Check our stories for details.

As a veterinarian, I am the ultimate skeptic. But the positive effects Leap Years has had on my older senior dogs, Dean, Annie, and Evie, convinced me to give Piglet and Zoey that same opportunity.

Since they are younger dogs, not yet showing obvious signs of aging, such as cognitive decline or lower activity levels, I didn’t expect to notice much change. My goal was to take advantage of the healthy aging benefits Leap Years offers for canine cellular health as the dogs age.

Within a few weeks, Piglet became MUCH more interactive, spending twice as much time playing instead of napping. He actually runs on the beach now! Zoey is even more vigilant in keeping track of what’s going on around her, despite losing sight in her right eye. She’s a very observant dog!

I highly recommend Leap Years for your middle aged and senior dogs. Including pre-senior dogs like ZoZo Marie. Leap Years' dual-action dog supplement combines NAD+ with a senolytic to boost NAD+ level and reduce damaged cells, supporting canine brain health, activity, and overall vitality.

Senior Dog Sunday featuring Deanie of course. He Senior Dog Sunday featuring Deanie of course.

He was doing so poorly two weeks ago that it seemed his end was very close.

Thanks to modern vet medicine he has made a comeback! In addition to a variety of meds and supplements, this boy dog has the best attitude I've ever seen in an older dog who is losing mobility.

He self moderates so thoughtfully. I don't feel guilty when he chooses to skip his daily walk. When he's up to it he's right at the door. He gets a special chewy stick if he stays home.

We are all really enjoying his new quirky behaviors and we are delighted he's feeling so much better. He insists on walking into the kitchen where he slips around. There is carpeting everywhere else for him! And he's at the back door every time I take a dog out even if he's just gone out!

Love ya Deanie!🩷

Piglet, the deaf blind pink puppy can't see or hea Piglet, the deaf blind pink puppy can't see or hear. His positive attitude towards all of his life challenges is extraordinary. But while he gets most of the credit for trying hard and never giving up, the reality is that we provide continuous consistent accommodations for his disabilities that enable his success.

Piglet also doesn't need to do things that disabled people do- read, pay taxes, go to school, enter buildings with no ramps or access to technology. His life is much simpler bc he is a dog!

Last week someone commented on one of our Piggy posts about how amazing Piglet is. That he is so strong and does whatever he sets his mind on. That would have been enough.

But then they continued on to say that disabled people should be like Piglet and stop insisting on services and having things done for them. What?

I'm hoping that this wasn't meant literally. Piglet is an ambassador for people and pets with disabilities. He promotes the understanding that access for all should be a priority in schools and other community areas- parks, playgrounds, stores, restaurants, medical facilities, and wherever people want and need to go.

This video doesn't show all that we do for Piggy. We do it naturally bc his life is intertwined with ours- something that happens when people adopt disabled dogs!

So, to the point of this post- please be kind and considerate in your thoughts and actions towards those who need assistance and services.
